Given my focus on 3D, texturing, and animation, you'd think modding for a game like Faster Than Light would be... "setting the bar low" so to speak. But it's actually turned out to be a fantastic inspiration, and in a completely unexpected direction.
Now yes, the game is basically just PNG sprites and XML events written up in a bastardized HTML-type syntax, so it's shockingly easy to mod (where stuff isn't hardcoded in, anyway). My core talents are more towards texturing than sprite-work, but I've still managed to produce some worthwhile stuff. "Turning the Tide" in particular is getting a pretty warm reception, despite being barely more than functional. But what's really got me excited lately is my "Incursion" Total Conversion. It started out as a minor ship mod, but a suggestion from one of the forumites planted a little brain-bug that ended up snowballing the project to ridiculous proportions.
And that's where things get interesting.

You see those? That's music folks. MUSIC. Moreover, music I'm genuinely happy with. Now I'll grant you they can be better. The Incursor Theme has already been improved a bit for the final mod release, and Planetfall needs some fine-tuning and a less abrupt ending, but right now I just don't give a damn. I am literally giddy that I've finally managed to find a stride with producing music. For the longest time I've always considered audio to be the weak link in my creative pantheon - something I could just barely manage if I really struggled with it for hours and days. But this... these Incursor soundtracks are just flowing. Flowing like a goddamn waterfall right out of nowhere.
I never want it to end...
